This Day That Age
Dr. Ali Sastroamidjojo, Prime Minister of Indonesia, was elected Chairman of the 29-nation Asian-African Conference which opened in Bandung on April 18. Soon after the conference was declared open by the Indonesian President, Dr. Soekarno, Lt. Colonel Nasser, Egyptian Premier, proposed that Dr. Ali Sastroamidjojo be elected Chairman. The Chinese Premier, Mr. Chou En-lai, seconded the proposal, which was supported by General Carlos Romulo of the Philippines.
