PONDICHERRY: Family members of deceased employees of the Department of Health continued their fast for the eighth day on Tuesday, urging the authorities to offer jobs to the employees' next of kin on compassionate grounds. A release from the Federation of the Groups C and D employees of the Department of Health said that there was a statutory provision available in this regard. The death of the employees while still in service had been largely due to their contracting diseases while handling patients in hospitals. The Federation release urged the Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy, to initiate steps to fulfill the family members' demands of the families of the employees.
