Private professional colleges `violating fee structure norms'

PONDICHERRY: Chief Minister N. Rangasamy on Tuesday said he had been persuading the Centre to give its consent to the proposal to introduce quota for Most Backward Classes (MBCs) candidates in Government jobs.

Replying to a question from A. Kasilingam (AIADMK) in the Pondicherry Assembly, Mr. Rangasamy said the MBCs were enjoying benefits under welfare schemes and in admissions to educational institutions.

As for reservation in government jobs, he had taken up the matter with the Centre, he said.

When Mr. Kasilingam insisted on furnishing actual names of castes coming under the MBC category, the Chief Minister announced before the House adjourned at 1.30 p.m. the details as recommended by the State Backward Classes Commission.

Members cutting across party lines brought to the attention of the Chief Minister N. Rangasamy, in the Pondicherry Assembly on Tuesday the plight of students joining self-financing professional colleges in the Union Territory.

A.Anbalagan (AIADMK) alleged that some of the colleges levied fees beyond what was prescribed by the Government. The Chief Minister said that he said he would look into the complaints and issue directives to the concerned managements.
