Staff Reporter

CUDDAPAHNIZAMABADVISAKHAPATNAM: The Cuddapah District Congress Committee president's appointment has been left to the party high command.

The Cuddapah DCC meeting, presided over by the outgoing president, Shaik Hussain, here on Tuesday unanimously passed a single-line resolution authorising the party high command to appoint the new district president and office-bearers.

The DCC vice-president, A. Amarnath Reddy, is the most likely choice, according to party sources.

Unanimous election

CUDDAPAHNIZAMABADVISAKHAPATNAM: The District Congress Committee incumbent president, Gadugu Gangadhar, has retained the post. The DCC unanimously elected him at its executive committee meeting here, on Tuesday.

The party Bodhan town president, Pasha Mohiuddin, proposed his name, while party leaders -- Mahipal and Jaipal - seconded it. The pradesh returning officer for the organisational elections would have to formally ratify his election.

Subramaniam, the MLA, Sulluripet, who attended the meeting as the District Returning Officer for the election, said Mr. Gangadhar's election would be formally announced by the returning officer after he handed over the details.

Unity mantra

CUDDAPAHNIZAMABADVISAKHAPATNAM: In tune with its tradition, the All-India Congress Committee president, Sonia Gandhi, was authorised on Tuesday by the party's local unit to nominate the City Congress Committee (CCC) chief and other office-bearers.

Chanting unity mantra, rival groups of the party attended the CCC meeting and adopted a resolution asking Ms. Gandhi to nominate the new team for the city committee.

The resolution was proposed by the CCC president, Dronamraju Srinivasa Rao, and seconded by the Visakha-II MLA, S. Rangaraju.

Earlier, the party observer and district returning officer, Palvai Govardhan Reddy, held several rounds of parleys with rival groups.

Former CCC presidents -- Y. Mariadas and P.L.N. Patnaik -- the Mahila Congress president, Pendurthi Pushpanjali, and the Youth Congress president, Y.V. Ravi Raju, were present.
