LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh Sunni Central Waqf Board, hearing the case for registration of Taj Mahal as a Wakf property, today fixed May 20 as the next date for hearing the case after the Archaeological Survey of India requested for additional time to produce necessary documents. The ASI representative, who appeared before the Board for hearing on Tuesday, said the necessary documents could not be found and requested for an additional time of two months, the Board Chairman, Hafiz Usman, said here. However, the Board allotted only one month to the ASI and posted May 20 as the next date for hearing, he said. The ASI had failed to appear in the earlier two hearings despite notices being sent by the Board, which has taken up the case on the instructions of the High Court, Mr. Usman said. On a PIL, the High Court in November last year had directed the Board to decide within three months whether the Taj Mahal was a wakf property or not, after which "we took up the case for hearing and asked the ASI to present is argument'', he said. But the dilly-dallying of ASI in the matter has delayed a final settlement, Mr. Usman added. PTI
