LUCKNOW: In pursuance of its policy to encourage private investment in energy sector, the Uttar Pradesh Government has decided to invite tenders from eight major private power companies to set up the 1000 mw Anpara C Power Project in Eastern UP. The decision was taken at a State Cabinet meeting chaired by the Chief Minister, Mulayam Singh Yadav, here on Tuesday. The eight companies include Tata Power Company Ltd, Ahmedabad Electric Company, Essar Power Ltd, AES India Pvt Ltd, Birla Project Development Company Ltd, Reliance Energy Generation Ltd, Lanco Kundapalli Power Pvt. Ltd, CLP Power India Pvt Ltd, the Chief Secretary, V. K. Mittal, said. One of these would be chosen for investment in the Anpara C Project on the basis of open tender within a period of four to five months, Mr. Mittal said and added that the State power regulatory authority would also be informed in this connection. He said the Government hoped that Anpara C would start producing 1000 mw of energy at the rate of less than Rs two per unit within the next four years. The Chief Secretary admitted that presently the State was undergoing a serious power crisis and was buying power worth Rs 350 to 400 crore from external sources every month. The Cabinet also decided to waive off Mandi tax on the food stock meant for the centre-sponsored food for work scheme underway in 15 districts of the State, he said.PTI
