CHANDIGARH: The Confederation of Indian Industry (Northern Region) has identified 10 key priorities for the year ahead, with special thrust on reforms and implementation at the state level, according to its newly-elected Chairman, Ajay S. Shriram. Addressing his maiden press conference in Chandigarh on Tuesday, he shared the work plan chalked out for the Northern Region. He said that the theme for the Region, "Sustainable Competitive Growth through People, Productivity and Technology'', highlighted the thrust areas for 2005-06. The 10 key areas on the priority list would be seven per cent economic growth,10 per cent industrial growth, Agri-Sector reforms, establishing a Common Economic Zone in the North, streamlining of state finances, Improving physical infrastructure, social development, water management and harvesting, E-Governance and building Brand North, nationally and internationally. Mr.Shriram said that the CII was committed to enhance the competitiveness of the region and its constituent states. Elaborating on CII's vision for a Common Economic Zone in the North, he said that the abolition of multiple tax structures, free movement of goods and sharing of best practices/ innovations across various states would create new synergies across the region.
