NEW DELHI: The East Delhi police, in association with the Federation of Residents' Welfare Associations of Mayur Vihar, Phase-I (Pockets I to V), have launched an "Anti-Auto Theft Scheme" to prevent motor vehicle thefts and also keep an eye on movement of unauthorised vehicles in the locality. The Scheme, formally launched at a function near Ram Mandir complex in Mayur Vihar on Monday in the presence of senior police officials of the East Delhi police and presidents of the RWAs, entails providing the vehicle owners with unique identification numbers and specially designed key chains. According to the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), Ajay Chaudhary, the key chains will have the police colours (blue and red) on one side of the plate. The other side of the plate would comprise a unique key chain number as well as colour of RWA, which will be different for all the RWAs. The police said they have requested the office-bearers of the RWAs to exhort the members of their localities to participate.
