In-stadium advertising to raise funds

Special Correspondent

Chennai: The GKM Volleyball Foundation, a private club entrusted with the job conducting the World senior volleyball championship qualifiers at Chennai (in two phases from June 24 to 26 and from July 1 to 3) is planning to go in for massive in-stadium advertisements to raise Rs. 1.54 crores to meet the additional expenses.

Briefing pressmen on Tuesday, M. Thiagarajan, Organising President of the Club, and K. Murugan, Secretary, Volleyball Federation of India, said they had to raise a huge amount to complete the qualifier in a fitting manner.

In fact, the total estimate of expenses for the major tournament is Rs. 2.26 crores. The Tamil Nadu Government has consented to contribute Rs. 42 lakhs, which will meet the infrastructure expenses.

Mr. B. Sivanthi Adityan, President, VFI, is providing all technical and administrative support, besides some financial assistance.

DD is covering the matches live. The GKM Foundation is expecting to get advertisements for the 13 or 14 slots around the court and banners inside the stadium, according to Founder President Veeramani.
