THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Over the last five years, there has been a gradual increase in the number of candidates appearing for entrance examinations conducted by the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations, Government of Kerala, for admission to various professional courses in the State. Those who have chosen the combination of physics, chemistry and mathematics with computer science as an optional can apply only for engineering. But those who have opted for physics, chemistry and biology with mathematics as an optional can apply for both medicine and engineering. Even though the number of seats under the medicine stream is much lower than that for the engineering courses, such a large variation is not felt in the number of candidates appearing for the entrance examinations.
