MPs seek ministry for OBCs

NEW DELHI: A forum of MPs belonging to Other Backward Classes have demanded full implementation of the Mandal Commission recommendations, including reservation in education, promotion, judiciary and private sector.

At a meeting attended by 25 MPs and two Ministers, Anbumani Ramadoss and R. Velu, the MPs also felt the need to constitute a parliamentary committee for backward classes, powers to the National Commission for Backward Classes, according to the Congress MP, V. Hanumantha Rao. Mr. Rao told The Hindu that the MPs would meet the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, and the United Progressive Alliance chairperson, Sonia Gandhi, and bring to their notice these demands.
