NEW DELHI: The Prime Minister's task force for the long-term social and economic development of Jammu and Kashmir has stressed the need for coordinated and efficient use of funds for sustainable development.
Report in six months
It will submit its interim report within six months outlining a strategy to improve infrastructure, tourism and creation of employment opportunities in the State.
Status papers
The task force has decided to prepare status papers on the transfer of the Salal hydroelectric project from the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation to the Jammu and Kashmir Government, tapping available hydel potential, providing forward and backward linkages to the artisan sector, horticulture development, improving connectivity and expanding health coverage, an official release said.
First meeting
Addressing the first meeting of the task force on Thursday, Dr. Rangarajan, chairman, said that efforts through accelerated development activities were needed to reach a sustainable solution to the multi-dimensional problems of the State. The task force would work to create an environment favourable for public and private partnership. Those who attended the meeting include: Bharti Enterprises chairman Sunil Mittal, Max India chairman Analjit Singh, the Economic Advisor to the Jammu and Kashmir Government, Haseeb Drabu, the Chairman of Power Trading Corporation, T.N. Tahkur, Dr. Subba Rao and the Joint Secretary in the Prime Minister' office, Sanjay Mitra.
