Rupee ends higher

MUMBAI: The rupee today ended a shade higher against the U.S. currency in yet another session of extremely dull and thin dealings at the interbank foreign exchange market ahead of a long holiday weekend.

Closing at 43.7500/7550 a dollar, a tad better than Wednesday's close of 43.7525/7575, the rupee was confined to a tight band of 43.7400 and 43.7600 in directionless business after a positive opening of 43.7350/7450.

The forex market will remain closed here tomorrow, April 22 (Friday) on account of 'Mahavir Jayanti' and 'Id-E-Milad.' .

Global crude oil prices surged to $53.58 a barrel in Asian trade.
