Subbaiah challenges expulsion

Staff Correspondent

MADIKERI: A.K. Subbaiah, former MLC, who has been expelled from the Janata Dal (Secular) along with three other leaders, on Thursday challenged his expulsion from the party.

He said that he and the other leaders will not accept their expulsion and will endeavour to expel the party president and former Prime Minister, H.D. Deve Gowda, from the party.

Speaking to presspersons here, Mr. Subbaiah said the expulsion did not make any difference either to him or the others, as it was a foregone conclusion. Mr. Subbaiah struck a positive note in saying that the State Cabinet will decide the tree rights issue soon. He also said that he had been invited by the Chief Minister's office for discussions.

Mr. Subbaiah, who declared his support to the proposed mini hydel project across the Barapole in Virajpet taluk, said the persons opposing the project were opposed to him rather than the project. He criticised the participation of the Virajpet MLA, H.D. Basavaraj, and the MLC C.S. Arun Machaiah in the Virajpet meeting organised by those opposed to the project and asked why they had failed to broach the subject in the Assembly and Council.
