BANGALORE: The former BJP MLA Pramila Nesargi on Thursday alleged that there are many scams in the proposed Rs. 6,200-crore Metro project. She told presspersons here that the project was "a bigger scam than the Arkavathy Layout" of the Bangalore Development Authority to develop 20,000 sites. Ms. Nesargi claimed that she has secured "inside information" on the project through her sources. However, she did not have documents to support her claims. She said she is trying to collect the documents to place them before the people, "who are being taken for a ride."
Many wrongs
Demanding that the implementing agency, Bangalore Mass Rapid Transit Ltd. (BMRTL), should place the documents for a public debate, she faulted the project on many counts. She said the actual cost of the project is Rs. 221 crores a kilometre but BMRTL claims that it is Rs. 172 crores a km. The operating cost is also underestimated, she charged. The cost of energy, for example, is claimed to be Rs. 2.75 a unit whereas it is Rs. 5.
