BANGALORE: The State Government has decided to upgrade seven national highways (360 km) from four lanes to six or eight lanes at a cost of Rs. 2,545 crores in 2005-06, the Minister for Public Works and Energy, H.D. Revanna, has announced. The national highways to be upgraded are: Bangalore-Hosur section (16 km, six lanes, Rs. 625 crores), Bangalore-Nelamangala (19.5 km, six lanes, Rs. 400 crores), Bangalore-Bagepalli, up to State border (94 km, eight lanes), Chennai-Kolar-Bangalore section (107 km, six lanes, Rs. 400 crores), Nelamangala-Hassan (157 km, four lanes, Rs. 620 crores), Bijapur-Chitradurga (390 km, four lanes) and Mangalore-Panaji (74 km, four lanes, Rs. 500 crores), he said.
District road repair
The State has 14,870 km of State highways and 31,000 km of major district roads. The Cabinet has cleared a Rs. 455-crore package to develop damaged major districts roads in the next three years, he said.
