CREATING AWARENESS: Artistes of Jagruthi troupe enacting a playlet in Cuddapah on Thursday.
CUDDAPAH: The Governor, Sushil Kumar Shinde, had some relaxing moments during his hectic tour of Cuddapah district when he watched a social play enacted by cultural artistes at Kalakshetram on Thursday. `Jagruthi', a cultural troupe of the Cuddapah police, performed a playlet Aa jeevitham maa koddu (we don't want such a life), portraying the plight of poor women lured into flesh trade by traffickers.
Light of poor women
The way vulnerable women landed up in brothels in Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, etc., their harrowing experiences and the gory end to their lives as AIDS victims, was amply portrayed by the artistes.
The playlet was organised by the convener of the Regional Network Against Women Trafficking and wife of the SP, V.C. Sajjanar, Anupama Sajjanar.
The vulnerable woman's role was played by Aruna, while a home guard, Y.S. Silar, acted as her poverty-stricken father.
The playlet was authored by the Police PRO, Vempalle Gangadhar, a known novelist. Earlier, Mr. Sajjanar apprised the Governor on the network's activities such as conduct of `balika melas', anti-trafficking committees, counselling for sex workers and at a photo exhibition inaugurated by the Governor at the venue.
