CUDDAPAH: Cuddapah is a trendsetter in Save a Child's Heart campaign and should be a model for India and Third World countries, the Governor, Sushil Kumar Shinde, said here on Thursday. Mr. Shinde interacted with the Apollo Hospitals Chairman, Pratap C. Reddy, by video-conferencing from Cuddapah Government Hospital. He lauded the detection of about 600 congenital cardiac patients in the district and operating upon 175 poor children at Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad. The Governor particularly complimented the Collector, Jayesh Ranjan, for conceiving the programme and mobilising funds to meet surgery costs.
Dr. Pratap Reddy said of the 500 patients operated upon in the hospital upon so far, 175 were from Cuddapah. The Collector had shouldered a momentous task, he said. Earlier, the Governor inaugurated a Sweekar rehabilitation centre for mentally challenged in the Government Hospital and enquired about the children present. He laid the stone for a DM & HO office building estimated to cost Rs. 1.51 crores. He launched a Care and Shelter programme for HIV/AIDS patients on Zilla Parishad premises and gave away AIDS tool kits to some patients. He also inaugurated a blood donation camp of A.P. Panchayat Raj Employees Association.
