YSR makes surprise visit to hospital

MLA. stresses need for cath lab



Expressing concern: The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, interacting with attendants of a patient at the General Hospital in Kurnool on Thursday.

KURNOOL: The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, made a surprise visit to the General Hospital during his transit halt here on Thursday. Dr. Reddy landed here on his way back to Hyderabad and proceeded to the hospital. He spent nearly half-an-hour meeting patients and attendants in the male surgical ward, male medical ward and paediatric ward.

He enquired with the patients whether they were getting proper diet, treatment and medicines. Also, he asked them whether the medical staff demanded money for providing service. Many patients said that they were receiving proper treatment.

The Chief Minister took pity on a patient, Ramakrishna, who became paralytic after an accident two years ago. The Chief Minister asked the Collector to provide house site and pension to family of the patient.

Dr. Reddy discussed with doctors the complaints and the line of treatment being given to him.

A doctor himself, he examined the case sheets also. An attendant in the paediatric ward drew the attention of the Chief Minister to the plight of his son, Veeresh, saying that he was a diabetic and did not respond well to the treatment. He asked the doctors to pay special attention to the patient.

The Kurnool MLA, M.A. Gafoor, who accompanied the Chief Minister, stressed the importance of cath lab in the hospital to undertake open-heart surgeries. Dr. Reddy was said to have told the MLA that a decision was taken to have cath labs in all teaching hospitals.

The Hospital Superintendent, H. Hanumatharayudu, presented a report to the Chief Minister on improvements required in the hospital, which were highlighted as lapses by the Medical Council of India (MCI) team.

Mr. Gafoor brought to the notice of the Chief Minister the problem of house sites and the impending drinking water crisis in Kurnool city after May 15 if Jurala water was not released by then.
