TUMKUR: The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has lauded Sri Sphatikapuri Kshetra, which is also known as Sri Gurugunda Brahmeshwara Mutt, near here, for its contribution in nurturing amity between Kannadigas and Telugus. Speaking after inaugurating a Rs.1-crore free feeding facility at the kshetra here on Thursday, Mr. Rajasekhara Reddy praised Nanjavadhoota Swamiji of the kshetra for his services to farmers in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, and said his Government will extend support to the swamiji in his mission. The annual Guruvandana programme was organised at the kshetra and Raghuveera Reddy, Minister for Agriculture, Andhra Pradesh, (who represents Madakashira constituency in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly, which borders Tumkur district) donated the facility to the kshetra to mark the occasion, which coincides with the 27th birthday of the swamiji. Though he began his speech splendidly in Kannada, Mr. Rajasekhara Reddy switched over to Telugu saying he could not continue in "chaste Kannada." He said he has great respect for Kannada language and love and affection for the people of Karnataka. H.D. Deve Gowda, Hassan MP and President of the Janata Dal (Secular), who presided over the Guruvandana programme, said Nanjavadhoota Swamiji has achieved a lot at a young age. Mr. Deve Gowda said: "The swamiji has revived the ancient contacts of the kshetra with the people all over Karnataka and parts of Andhra Pradesh. He (swamiji) has a bright future." Mr. Raghuveera Reddy; C. Channigappa, Minister for Sericulture; B. Satyanarayana, Minister of State for Rural Water Supply; G. Parameshwar, MLA and former Minister, who donated to the kshetra a Rs. 50-lakh prayer hall in memory of his father, H.M. Gangadharaiah; and T.B. Jayachandra, former Minister; were among those who spoke. Three hundred couples entered into wedlock at the free mass marriage ceremony organised as a part of the Guruvandana programme.
