ANANTAPUR: The wreckage of the explosive targeted on the Obuladevara Cheruvu police station on Wednesday night, which, however, landed in vacant area in the adjacent electric sub-station, is being sent for ballistic test for ascertaining its technical details and destructive capacity. According to police sources, the explosive could be a crude bomb used as a rocket. As per their assessment, the attackers, suspected to be Maoists, could have stuffed gelatin sticks and detonators in a one-foot iron pipe and fired it from another weapon. The police suspect that the explosive material used in the object could be about half-a-kg in weight and could have been fired from a distance of 70 meters. The Obuladevara Cheruvu police registered a case against Maoists for the explosion. They have also assessed that the capacity of the explosive was low and the damage would have been minimal even if it had landed on the target. The police are suspecting that it could have been used to terrorise the police and was not intended to inflict loss. Two special parties of the police have been rushed to the area and they have taken up intense combing operation in the surrounding areas.
