VIJAYAWADA: The Vice-Chancellor of the NTR University of Health Sciences, R. Sambasiva Rao, has said that the university will have to await the issuance of an alternative GO afresh in respect of the admission procedure to the post-graduate medical courses in the wake of the High Court order. Reacting to the verdict of the High Court here on Thursday, Dr. Rao said that the entire admission process had to be redone. The State Government would have to make a decision on seat matrix and roster system and issue fresh guidelines in the form of a GO. Only then would the university be able to commence the admission process in accordance with that. "The university cannot formulate the procedures on its own, nor can we take recourse to the old procedures," he observed.
Deadline
Asked if the university could complete the process of admissions before the deadline of May 1, he said all that would depend on the guidelines and the GO. To a query on whether there was any likelihood of the university giving time to applicants after issuing a fresh notification, he said that normally 10 days was being given. "But, this is an abnormal situation. I really do not know on how to go about and also whether we can give any time to the applicants," he said. Referring to the cut-off date for admission, he said he was not sure about complying with the instruction of completing the process of admission before May 1. In fact, the Medical Council of India fixed April 25 as deadline to complete the admission. "We complied with that. However, the verdict of the High Court is the latest development. Even if we want to adhere to the instructions on the deadline, which is just 10 days away, I am not sure whether we will be able to do so. For, the university's convocation is slated for Saturday (April 23). We have to see how the State Government guides us through," he observed.
