Dismiss Sen, demands Telugu Desam

Special Correspondent

Governor urged to intervene to put end to the controversy

HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam has charged Swaranjit Sen, DGP, with acting in a vengeful manner and asked the Government to remove him from the post and drop the case booked under the SC/ST Act against the IAS officer, Shalini Mishra.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, TDP leaders -- K. Vidyadhar Rao and E. Peddi Reddy -- alleged that the case against Ms. Mishra was `foisted' because she had ordered an enquiry against the adoption agency which was run by the DGP's wife, Anita Sen, some years ago.

They also demanded a judicial probe to find out whether the tribal, based on whose complaint a case was booked against Ms. Mishra, had lodged it on his own or was forced to do so.

Referring to reports that 35 IAS officers had met the Chief Secretary, Mohan Kanda, on the issue, they said that in order to prevent the administration from collapsing, the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, should issue instructions to drop the case.

The TDP leaders also urged the Governor, Sushil Kumar Shinde, to advise the Government in this regard.

They lashed out at the Government for sending a wrong message by turning a deaf ear to the demand made by women's organisations and political parties. The TDP had opposed Sen's appointment as the DGP from the beginning.

At a separate press conference, the former Minister, P. Bhumanna, charged the Congress with failing to fulfil its pre-poll promise of providing ex gratia to the families of weavers who died of starvation or committed suicide. He demanded ex gratia for the kin of 268 weavers who died.
