BELTHANGADY: In a bizarre incident reported from Kuthluru in Venoor Police Station limits in the taluk, an aged couple reportedly assaulted each other fatally in "drunken stupor" on Wednesday evening. The police said the couple used to fight among themselves frequently. The Superintendent of Police, Soumendu Mukherjee, who visited the spot, said Monta Moolya (75) slapped his wife, Sankamma (65), who retaliated. Enraged, Monta hit her on the head with a pestle, Mr. Mukherjee said and added that she used firewood to defend herself. Bhavani, their daughter-in-law, ignored the fight as routine. She later found them lying in a pool of blood. A doctor summoned from Naravi declared the couple dead, Mr. Mukherjee said. The incident came to light on Thursday after some villagers informed the police. The bodies of the couple were handed over to their relatives after autopsy.
