COIMBATORE: An elephant attacked a farm worker, Sundararajan, at Kempanur near Thondamuthur here on Wednesday night. He was admitted to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital with hip fracture. According to police, Sundararajan and another farm worker, Aruchamy, saw the elephant near a field. Both tried to flee the spot but only Aruchamy managed to hide behind some foliage. The elephant struck Sundararajan with its trunk, flinging him over a few metres. Aruchamy emerged from behind the bushes and mobilised people from nearby farms to take Sundararajan to the hospital.
