Fracas between scribes, theme park officials

KOCHI: The Kunnathunadu police have registered two cases following alleged obstruction of Lakshmi Ajithkumar, reporter and M.J. Yesudas, photographer of Kerala Mid-day Times, while they were on assignment at Pallikkara.

According to a release issued by the mediapersons, they were working on a story on environmental pollution at Pallikkara in Kunnathunadu panchayat when the officials of Veegaland, an amusement park, stopped them.

The two were taken to the office and harassed. Later, they were released by the police. A case was registered against the amusement park officials.

On their part, the officials of Veegaland said that the daily had been publishing "fabricated" news about their institution and so access was denied to representatives of the daily when permission was sought to do a feature.

However, the reporter and photographer were found trespassing the park premises on Wednesday and were stopped from taking photographs, said the Veegaland official.

A case was registered on charges of trespassing into private property after consulting a couple of media organisations, he added.

The Ernakulam Press Club has protested against the action of the officials of the amusement park.

Detaining a woman reporter was against humanitarian concerns and cultural norms, said Shaji Jacob, president, and S. Harikrishnan, secretary of Ernakulam Press Club in a release issued here.
