MADURAI: : Entry of heavy vehicles into the city has been restricted in view of the ongoing Chithirai festival. On Thursday and Friday, heavy vehicles, including lorries, should enter the city only after 10 p.m. and not as per the existing regulation of 4 p.m. These vehicles will be banned from entering the city from 4 a.m. on Saturday, in view of the car festival of the Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple. The police have rounded up 200 persons since Wednesday night for indulging in various criminal activities. Plainclothes police personnel have been posted at public places and city buses in order to keep a watch on movement of anti-social elements.
