Water level

MADURAI: : The level in the Periyar dam stood at 111.40 feet with an inflow of 315 cusecs and a discharge of 130 cusecs. The level in the Vaigai dam was 30.51 feet with an inflow of 226 cusecs.

Tekkadi received a maximum rainfall of 32 mm, followed by Marudanadi 13, Gudalur 7, Periyar dam 6, Peranai, Viraghanoor dam and Kallandiri 5 each and Madurai 4 mm.

Hindi workshop for stenographers

A three-day Hindi workshop for stenographers of Central Board for Workers Education was conducted at Regional Directorate here recently.

Inaugurating the programme, S. Ramachandran, Senior Manager, Regional Staff Training College, Canara Bank, called for implementing the official language in daily activities.

B.V. Ramesh Babu, Hindi Officer, conducted the programme. In the valedictory function, San Deo Singh Purthy, Hindi Officer, Southern Railway, K.L. Shetty, Regional director, CBWE, and R. Perumal Ravi Shankar, Education Officer, spoke.

Dry day today

The District Collector has declared April 22 as dry day in view of Meelad-un-Nabi. Hence, all retail IMFL shops would be closed on that day, according to an official release.

Admission to blind school open

Admission of visually handicapped students to the Indian Association for the Blind Higher Secondary School and Rehabilitation Centre is open for Standards VI, VII, IX and XI.

Hostel admissions for Standards I to XII, and for college-level students under the Integrated Education System are also open.

Courses offered include a six-month course in telephone operation for students who have passed Standard X; one-year courses in typing, shorthand and computers for those who have completed Plus Two and one-year courses in tailoring and chair weaving for those who have passed Standard VIII.

Free food, accommodation and educational equipment will be provided to the students. Interested students may contact the school authorities before May 30 at the institution located at Sundarajanpatti. Phone: 3092990.
