THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As many as 6,000 NSS `karayogams' from 14 districts will be represented at the rally and public meeting to be held here on Saturday in connection with the Samastha Kerala Nair Maha Sammelanam. The organising committee president, R. Gopalan Nair, and the secretary, M. Sangeethkumar, told mediapersons here on Thursday that all arrangements for the smooth conduct of the event were in place. As many as 1,000 volunteers will be deployed to regulate the rally and streamline the movement of vehicles bringing participants to the rally. A total of 30 information centres will be set up across the city. Mr. Nair said arrangements had been made to install water tanks along the route of the rally. Medical teams equipped with ambulances will be pressed into service. Fire tenders will also be deployed at the meeting ground. The organising committee said the rally would proceed in double file. Pedestrians and vehicles will be allowed to cross the road at specific points. About 100 vehicles are expected to participate in a two-wheeler rally to be held in the city on Friday evening to herald the `sammelan.' The rally will start from Kazhakkuttom and conclude at the meeting ground at Pazhavangadi.
