Milad-e-Sherif observed

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Muslim Cultural Forum observed Milad-e-Sherif on Thursday as human amity day. The State-wide observance was inaugurated by the Palayam Imam, P.K. Hamza Moulavi Farooqi. Milad friendship meetings and cultural conferences were held in this connection at Attingal, Kaniyapuram, Nedumangad and Balaramapuram. The C.H. Muhammed Koya Foundation and the Razakiya Development Charitable Foundation also observed the day as an occasion for promoting religious amity. — Staff Reporter

Birth centenary celebrations

Thiruvananthapuram: The Culture Minister, A. P. Anil Kumar, on Thursday said that Mathew. M. Kuzhiveli, Padmashri recipient, had contributed a lot to the growth of Malayalam literature. At the birth centenary celebrations of the writer, the Minister said that Kuzhiveli had played a key role in shaping several writers of his generation. — Staff Reporter

Regional holiday

Thiruvananthapuram: T he Collector has declared a regional holiday on Saturday for Government offices and educational institutions in Nemom, Kalliyoor, Pallichal, Balaramapuram, Venganoor and Thiruvallam panchayats, including the areas merged with the City Corporation, in connection with the Kaliyoottu festival at the Vellayani Devi Temple, according to a press release. However, there will be no change in the examination to be held on that day. — Staff Reporter

Drunken driving: 51 booked

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Fifty-one persons have been booked on charges of drunken driving by the city Traffic police as part of a four-day crackdown that began on Monday. The Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) said in a press release that 345 cases were registered in connection with drunken driving this year alone. Of these, the driving licences of 41 persons have been cancelled by the RTO for a period of three to six months. — Staff Reporter
