VISAKHAPATNAM: A bank clerk has been sentenced to undergo two years rigorous imprisonment and to pay a fine of Rs.55,000 on various counts for allegedly misappropriating funds of the bank between 1993 and 1997. The Special Judge for CBI Cases, Visakhapatnam, T. Bhaskara Rao, on Thursday, convicted P. Sanyasi Rao, a clerk-cum-cashier in the Gajuwaka branch of State Bank of India, of the charges. According to the prosecution, the accused had misappropriated the Provident Fund contributions received by the bank during 1993 and 1997 by abusing his official position. He had caused a loss to the bank and a corresponding gain to himself to the tune of Rs.5,40,200.
