NEW DELHI: Describing female foeticide as a crime against humanity, the Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit, on Thursday called upon the women writers to openly write against this social evil. Opposing gender based discrimination, she said, women writers can play an important role in bringing about a social revolution. Speaking at "Samay ke Hastakshar'' programme organised by Lekhika Sangh here, the Chief Minister said women from all fields should unite to fight the custom of female foeticide that is a blot on our society. Ms Dikshit, who also released the Dalit Sahitya issue of Prarambh, also asked Lekhika Sangh to devote its next issue of Prarambh to the burning issue of female foeticide. The president of Lekhika Sangh, Indira Swarup, demanded the setting up of a centre in Delhi to promote literature and culture on the lines of Bharat Bhavan in Bhopal. She said such a centre should have facilities to promote the activities of literary and cultural organisation and a library to cater to the needs of the women writers.
