NEW DELHI: Three young men, who had allegedly killed two women in Uttam Nagar over a period of 12 months, were arrested by the West Delhi police on Wednesday. Inspector Bhoop Singh, in charge of Special Staff (West Delhi), and Head Constable Rajbir Singh got a tip-off about the three suspects who were likely to assemble near Sonia Hospital yesterday. Accordingly, a trap was laid and the suspects -- identified as Farukh, Jitender and Subhash --- arrested. At their instance, the police have recovered the mobile phone of one of the victims and the meat chopper, which was allegedly used in the second incident. The police said Farukh and Subhash were involved in the murder of Asha alias Tara, a resident of Om Vihar in Uttam Nagar, reported on March 15. Both the accused were known to Asha and were under the impression that she had lots of money. Farukh was in desperate need of money as his brother was getting married on March 16. He and Subhash planned to kill Asha and escape with her money. On March 14, they reached Asha's house around 11 p.m. and asked for shelter. They told her that the police were looking for them as they had beaten up some people. Asha allowed them in and then all the three went to sleep. In the early hours, Farukh and Subhash woke up and hacked Asha to death. They then escaped with some money and her mobile phone. In the second incident, Jitender and Farukh killed one Deepa alias Rachna, a resident of Chanakya Place in Uttam Nagar, on April 24 in 2004. Farukh wanted to establish sexual relationship with Deepa, and approached her in the market. He also made some obscene comments. Deepa got angry and slapped him. Farukh then decided to take revenge and, along with Jitender, planned to kill her. On the fateful day, they reached Deepa's house and the moment she answered the door, Jitender caught hold of her. Farukh then hacked her to death. After killing Deepa, they wrapped the body in a bedsheet and dumped it inside an empty carton and left it on the first floor. The police said Farukh, who worked with his father at his furniture shop, was a womaniser and fond of consuming liquor. Jitender and Subhash began indulging in anti-social activities after they came in contact with Farukh. Further investigations in the case are on.
