THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: : The LDF district committee on Friday accused the Government of dragging its feet on bringing out an Ordinance to secure the possession of the Halcyon Castle and its premises at Kovalam from the Gulfar Group. Addressing a press conference here, the CPI(M) district secretary, M.Vijayakumar, and other LDF leaders urged the Government to take over 65 acres of land, including the ITDC hotel, Halcyon Castle, the Government Guest House, KTDC Samudra Hotel, the post office, the old police station building and a two-km stretch of the beach. They also called on the Centre to retain the ITDC hotel in the public sector. They said the Kovalam Protection Council would launch an indefinite agitation to press their demands. "Though it takes less than 24 hours to issue an Ordinance, the Government is yet to honour its commitment," Mr.Vijayakumar said.
Collusion charge
Mr. Vijayakumar observed that the High Court order returning the possession of the castle to the Gulfar Group had exposed the collusion between the State Government and the hotel owners. He alleged that the Government had failed to observe legal formalities in the move to take over the hotel. "By not fighting the case effectively, it messed up the situation further," he said.
Inquiry sought
Demanding a comprehensive inquiry into the sale of the ITDC hotel during the NDA Government's tenure, Mr. Vijayakumar said the State Government's silence on the issue gave room for suspicion. .
