Lottery sales resume on Monday

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala Lottery is back in business. The State Government has cleared the decks to resume the sale of lottery tickets from April 25. The Lotteries Department has made arrangements to distribute 45 lakhs of tickets in the Periyar, Chaithanya, Kairali and Sowbhagya series every week through vendors all over the State.

The Periyar series has been identified for the first draw scheduled for May 10. The Chaithanya, Kairali and Sowbhagya draws will be held on the subsequent days.

The Government has also made arrangements to exchange the 35 lakh tickets in circulation when the lottery ban came into effect on January 27.

Customers in the possession of tickets purchased before the ban came into effect can get their tickets exchanged for new ones in the same denomination through lottery agents.

Directive to agents

An official pressnote quoting the Lotteries Director, E. Ayyappan, on Friday directed agents to bring the old tickets in their possession and those collected from customers to the respective District Lottery Office before May 31 to get them exchanged for new ones.

The pressnote said an amount of Rs.1.98 crores would be issued as prize money for the four series every week. There will be a total of 4.95 prizes in all the series.

The Periyar, Chaithanya and Sowhagya tickets will carry a first prize of Rs.20 lakhs. There will be three winners for the second prize of Rs.10 lakhs and the third prize of Rs.50,000. The Kairali ticket has a first prize of Rs.one lakh.

As many as 900 persons, 300 from each number series, will be entitled to the third prize of Rs.4,500.

While the Periyar draw will be held every Tuesday, the Chaithanya tickets will be drawn on Thursdays, Kairali on Fridays and Sowbhagya on Saturdays.
