Congress told not to dare JD(S)

Special Correspondent

Deshpande's statement criticised `JD(S) should get 50 per cent of posts of chairmen of boards and corporations.'

HUBLI: The Deputy Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, has criticised his ministerial colleague, R.V. Deshpande, for daring the Janata Dal (S) to withdraw from the coalition government.

Addressing presspersons on Friday, Mr. Siddaramaiah said a Minister should not make such statements. Congressmen should know that no one in the Janata Dal (S) has a craving for office. They should also not forget that the Congress was rejected by the people in the last elections.

The Congress is the major partner in the coalition and the Janata Dal (S) is only giving support, he said.

Water supply

Mr. Siddaramaiah said he will convene a meeting of officials in Bangalore shortly to discuss clearance for the Rs. 160-crore scheme for improving the water supply scheme for Hubli and Dharwad, for which a proposal has been submitted by the Karnataka Urban Water Supply and Drainage Board.

On the Kalasa Bandori Nala project, he said the Government is seeking withdrawal of the order suspending the execution of the project issued by the Centre.
