NEW DELHI: Generation gap between two members came to the fore on Thursday in the Rajya Sabha. Raising a question on the dwindling strength of postal personnel and operations, senior Congress member from Karnataka, Bimba Raikar, asked the Union Minister for Communications, Dayanidhi Maran, why the postal services, which cater to rural areas, were being neglected in preference to Information Technology and mobile phone services which were serving the rich. The 72-year-old member, pointing to the Minister, said: ``I ask you what is the need for mobile phones. They are spoiling the youth. Boys talk to girls and girls to boys on mobile phones,'' she said as the House burst into laughter. Quick with his repartee, the young Minister said it was up to people how they use a technology. ``Parents should control their children and make sure they do not misuse mobile phones. For example, atomic energy can be used for peaceful purposes as well as for making bombs.''He admitted IT and telecom were preferred but said the Government policy was aimed at encouraging the use of mobile phones and make them cheap. But Ms. Raikar had not finished. She again asked the Minister, ``Why do you put pictures in mobile phones (camera phones). Of what use is it?''
