ON BOARD PM'S AIRCRAFT: The Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, said on Friday that he hoped the ongoing controversy over corruption in defence deals would not affect the timely purchase of necessary defence equipment. "I worry about that," he said in answer to a question about the negative impact of recent scandals on the procurement process. "It is very unfortunate that there are these controversies. But democratic politics, competitive politics has a logic of its own." Dr. Singh said the Government would have to make every effort to ensure that recent events "do not create a disincentive to timely decisions regarding armaments."
