NEW DELHI: The Defence Ministry on Friday referred the alleged payoffs by Denel, a South African arms manufacturer, to the Central Bureau of Investigation, a Ministry spokesperson said here. This follows reports in the South African newspaper Cape that Denel paid money to a British agent to secure classified information from the Indian Defence Ministry's price negotiation committee on equipment being procured during the National Democratic Alliance regime in 2003. The Defence Ministry's request to the agency is being routed through the Department of Personnel and Training, the nodal Ministry for the agency. The agency spokesperson said the agency was yet to receive the request from the Government.
