NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party Councillor and member of the Standing Committee of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Vijender Gupta, has condemned the civic body's decision to forfeit 10 and 15 litre plastic water containers being used to supply potable water in various markets, institutions and colonies by the licensed plants. Alleging that the current move was the result of an emerging nexus between the MCD officials and big companies, Mr. Gupta said the move was anti-people as it would deprive a large number of them, particularly those visiting and working in markets and offices, access to pure and cheap drinking water. "It will not only force people to shell out more money for buying bottled water but also promote selling of unhygienic and unsafe water. Supply of water in plastic containers from licensed water plants was legal and permitted in the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act," he added. The BJP leader further said over one-lakh plastic containers were being supplied in the city daily, giving jobs to a number of people. This act would make them jobless. The Corporation gives licenses to the plants for selling potable drinking water.
