NEW DELHI: : The sanitation management of Dwarka, the largest colony in Asia, will be handled by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi from May 1. The Delhi Development Authority formally handed over to MCD the responsibility at a function held on Friday where DDA officials handed over a cheque of Rs 11.58 crores to the Mayor of Delhi, Satbir Singh, for the sanitation management. Announcing the pact, the Member of Parliament from Outer Delhi, Sajjan Kumar, said the residents of Dwarka were living in a horrible condition as the solid waste management system was not commensurate with the pace at which Dwarka had developed. Mr Kumar said because of the transfer of sanitation management to MCD, residents of 125 group housing societies and 75 DDA colonies in Dwarka would be able to enjoy a clean and pollution free environment. Further, he said, the MCD has prepared a stable and comprehensive sanitation plan for Dwarka under which big-sized dumping bins would be provided to the societies - as per the garbage generated by them and their requirement for such bins - which would be cleaned on a daily basis. The Corporation, he said, has also planned to establish complaint centres to ensure regular cleanliness in the area and would attend to complaints promptly as now the necessary infrastructure has been put in place. Mr Kumar said comprehensive discussions have been held with the Municipal Commissioner and other concerned officials of MCD and DDA for providing a better and regular sanitation system in other DDA developed colonies as well.
