Experienced hands in demand in IT sector

Special Correspondent

`There is a veritable boom in recruitment now'

BANGALORE: The Information technology companies are now looking for professionals with four to eight years experience. Till last year the demand was more for those who could fit into the junior cadre, persons with two or three years experience, preferably in the same line of applications or services.

According to a spokesperson of J.K. Management Consulants Pvt. Ltd., now one of Bangalore's largest IT recruitment firms, IT professionals with expertise in the areas of Mainframe, Java, embedded system software, SAP, .Net and Microsoft packages are much sought after.

"There is a veritable boom now in the recruitment of those with expertise and some experience in the mobile, telecom and networking domains and this demand shows signs of continuing for some time," the spokesperson said. The high degree of technological changes means more opportunities for professionals with specific domain knowledge as in networking.

On the flipside, the demand does not match with availability of candidates, in the software development companies, J.K. Management Consultants have found. This is especially the case with regard to senior management positions where many with experience of 15-plus years are seeking openings. The demand for senior software engineers and technical leaders across all IT skills continues to be high while the supply is low. This could mean more ready jobs for those with around five years of related experience.

Team leaders

HR managers themselves are increasingly looking for persons who can lead software development teams and with enough experience to handle a team of persons of different temperaments. Team leaders are expected to understand the needs and expectations of client companies overseas and the urgency of executing projects within stringent deadlines.
