BANGALORE: A 30-year-old man riding a motorcycle on the Koramangala Ring Road on Thursday was seriously injured when he was hit by a stray bullet that reportedly came from the nearby defence firing range. The police said that around 9.30 a.m. the victim, Thomas, who works in a hardware shop, felt a hard object hit him when he was nearing the "air view point" on the Ring Road in Viveknagar police station limits. People often stop their vehicles here to watch aircraft landing and taking off. He stopped his vehicle and noticed blood oozing out of his right buttock. As Thomas collapsed, passers-by took him to a hospital and got him medical aid. Later, Thomas was shifted to another hospital on Airport Road where the doctors removed a bullet from his body. The Assistant Commissioner of Police (Ulsoor Gate), B.B. Ashok Kumar, told The Hindu that the police suspected that the bullet came from the firing range where Army personnel were practising on Thursday morning. Mr. Ashok Kumar said this was the second time a person has been injured by a stray bullet at the spot. A bout one year ago, Surjeet Singh, who was going by an autorickshaw, was hit by such a bullet. "Fortunately both received timely attention. We will write to the defence authorities asking them to shift the firing range outside the city to prevent recurrence of such incidents," Mr. Kumar said.
