`City students have good profile, grasp of subject'

Staff Reporter

Interview held for spot admission to Irish varsity

VIJAYAWADA: The city students are intelligent and dedicated and have shown a good success rate, say Rebecca O'Brien and Sally-Anne McIver of Griffith College, Dublin, Ireland.

Most of these students prefer to join M.Sc. computer course given the growing opportunities for those educated in a software hub like Dublin, they observe.

Ms. Rebecca, international marketing executive, and Ms. Sally-Anne, manager, international office, were here on Friday to interview students to conduct spot admissions, organised by ANZAC Consultants.

In an interview to The Hindu they said: "Vijayawada students have a very good profile. They have a good grasp of the subject. The overall feeling is they are good students."

The only complaint from the two officials of Griffith College was that the students required improving their English. "It is only a little bit. That will be enough. In other academic and personality aspects, they are very good," Ms. Rebecca hastened to add.

It was quite interesting that some students came for spot admissions along with their parents. "Some students are nervous and shy. Some others are quiet. But we cannot rule out that they are not brainy simply on the basis of this," Ms. Sally-Anne said.

Back in Ireland, Indian students would not have to feel homesick what with Indian food outlets and Indian families present in good numbers. "Our college has the biggest number of Indian students. The campus is quite big and there are over 8,000 students. Two hundred of them are from India. We have students from over 56 countries," they said.

The Regional Director of Anzac, K. Ashok Kumar, the operations manager, Srinivas, and others were present.
