NEW DELHI: Eight people allegedly involved in auto-lifting cases have been arrested from Srinivaspuri, in South Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh. In all, 13 stolen motorcycles were recovered at their instance. According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (South Delhi), Pravir Ranjan, the police received a tip-off that two suspected auto-lifters, Jamshed and Muavver, both residents of Mathura, would come to Bala Sahed Gurdwara at Srinivaspuri on Thursday. They then laid a trap and intercepted the motorcycle on which the suspects were travelling. On their personal search, the police recovered a country-made firearm and four live cartridges from them. During interrogation, the two allegedly disclosed that they worked for Israil aka Ismail, a resident of Mewat, with whom they had come to the Capital to appear in a court here at Pataila Courts the same day. However, midway Israil stole a vehicle and left for Bishambhra at Matura to dispose it of. Subsequently, they sent a team to Mathura, which arrested other gang members, identified as Mobin, Jahoor Khan, Maqsood and Mehar Chand. At their instance, the police recovered eight stolen motorcycles. The police arrested two receivers of stolen property, Man Singh and Amar Chand, from whom they recovered a stolen motorcycle. Three more motorcycles allegedly stolen by the gang members were found seized by the Mathra police as abandoned vehicles. The accused disclosed that the gang is headed by Kamaluddin who is presently in Mathura Jail, due to which his close accomplice, Israil, has taken over the activities of the gang. The gang members used to come to Delhi onboard trains from Koshi in the evening hours, after which they would conduct recee to identify the motorcycles stationed in the parking lots to steal them. In the wee hours, they would steal the motorcycles by cutting its iron-chains with the help of cutters.
