Engineer, ex-ZPTC member in net for fleecing officials
|
HYDERABAD:
An assistant executive engineer of the Panchayat Raj department, P.V.S. Vara Prasad and an ex-ZPTC member of Narsapuram, C. Satyanarayana, were arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau for extorting money from Government officials. The duo fleeced the officials on the pretext that petitions were pending against them with the ACB and that they would "get them closed with the help of ACB officials." The accused collected amounts through one Rajendra Prasad. Most of their victims were from Narsapuram.
Modus operandi
They used to ring up some officers, introduce themselves as ACB officials and ask them to appear for an enquiry.
The hapless officials would then approach Satyanarayana or Vara Prasad, as they were known for "dealing" with such matters.
The duo and the official would then come to Hyderabad. Here, the third accused, Rajendra Prasad, would enter the scene.
He would go to the hotel room and pretend to call some ACB official on his cell phone.
After the "conversation," the official would hand over the money to the accused. Rajendra Prasad is absconding.
