PONDICHERRY: The Pondicherry Pradesh Congress Committee president, V. Narayanasamy, said on Saturday that the Election Commission should deploy special poll observers and the Central Reserve Police Force for the byelections to the Gummidipoondi and Kanchipuram Assembly seats in Tamil Nadu. Mr. Narayanasamy said the recent violence during the civic polls in Chennai, with the State Ministers holding a road roko agitation, raised the fears that similar disturbances make take place during the byelection. Hence, the Commission should make special arrangements to ensure their smooth conduct. He said the Ministers who resorted to the road roko should step down. If they did not do so, the Governor should dismiss them in the larger interests of democracy. He also wanted the Centre to sack the Narendra Modi Government in Gujarat as the law and order in the State had deteriorated as could be evidenced by the attack on the Railway Minister, Lalu Prasad Mr. Narayanasamy said an inquiry should be conducted into the arms deal with the South African company, Denel, during the tenure of the former Defence Minister, George Fernandes.
