BANGALORE: In a dramatic twist four top players S. Vijayalakshmi, S. Meenakshi, D. Harika and Esha Karavade have stayed out of the National women's `A' chess championship, the first round of which begins at the four-star Goldfinch Hotel on Sunday. There is a question mark on the fifth player, Tania Sachdev as well. However in Tania's case she had sought a two-day grace time to attend to her exams. Curiously enough, there is nothing "official" yet about these withdrawals. The players obviously did not turn up for the formal inauguration on Saturday evening and the organisers, left with no choice, have gone ahead with pairings for a 14-player field.
