`My differences with Advani ideological'

No problem with Babulal Gaur: Uma Bharti

NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party leader, Uma Bharti, said on Saturday that she had "ideological" differences with the party president, L.K. Advani, and was "hurt" as no senior leaders had "come forward to protect me."

"There are certain things which are not personal. They are confined between me and Advaniji. But they are not personal at all; they are ideological," she said in an interview to NDTV.

Asked whether the differences were things of the past, Ms. Bharti said, "Advani is a big leader, so I would not say there are differences between Advani and Uma Bharti. But there are certain things between Advaniji and me only. And I will not say even whether they are sorted out or not."

She said she was not hurt because of "certain colleagues ... But I wanted my senior leaders to come forward and protect me which they did not and that hurt has caused me so much of pain." She did not elaborate on the issue on which she was seeking protection from senior leaders.

On the "friction" between the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Babulal Gaur, and her, she said, "There is no problem between Babulal Gaur and me ... This is me and somebody else, somebody unseen and unknown who does not live in Bhopal, lives in Delhi."Asked specifically whether there was a "hidden" hand against her, she said, "There is somebody who is not in Bhopal, who is in Delhi and who is in a very powerful position. And this is not Gaur at all. I have nothing against him. If Gaur thinks so, then he is sadly mistaken. He must be cured for that; he must take treatment for that."

In New Delhi, the BJP refused to comment on the statements of Ms. Bharti. The party had taken note of her statements, the party general secretary, Arun Jaitley, said. Asked if it was contemplating any action for such statements, Mr. Jaitley said, "It is up to the party president to decide. We have taken note of whatever she has stated." — PTI, UNI
