CHANDIGARH: Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) at Rohtak has gone into "futuristic mode" and is fully geared up to emerge as a Centre of Excellence in higher education. According to the Vice-Chancellor, R.S. Dhankar, the univerarsity will be developed in a planned manner so that it becomes a hub of academic activities, higher education and research. He disclosed that the MDU would host the North Zone Vice-Chancellors' Conference from June 8 to 10. And the Faculty of Law of the University and the All India Law Teachers' Congress would jointly organise a two-day National Conference on "India in the Globalised World: Challenges and Opportunities" from April 30. It would address issues related to globalisation threadbare and especially delineate the interplay of the processes of globalisation in the Indian context. The constitutional issues regarding social justice would also be discussed. The Department of Bio-Sciences would be organising a National Seminar on `Current Trends in Bio-Technology' in May, he added. Professor Dhankar said that the MDU proposed to establish a Department of Engineering and Technology, Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management and Institute of Advanced Studies in Education on the campus. Job-oriented professional courses like Masters' in Business Economics (MBE) and MBA (International Business) were in the pipeline. The varsity would also establish Student Activity Centre, Human Resource Development Centre and Career Development and Placement Centre on the campus. A community Radio Station is also on the anvil, he added.
